The line forms here for the world?s greatest and possibly most influential band ? Led Zeppelin! With Dazed and Confused, Stairway to Heaven, Whole Lotta Love and more signature performances, this mesmerizing movie built around Zep?s famed ?73 NYC concerts is convincing proof why. Band members supervised the Re-mastering and Dolby 5.1 Re-mixing of the film?s image and sound. In addition to their performances, fantasy sequences and at-home glimpses of Jimmy Page, Robert Plant, John Paul Jones and the late John Bonham, this 2-disc Special Edition has over 40 minutes of newly-added extra features including: Two (2) never-before-released songs in rare performance footage: Celebration and Over the Hills and Far Away; Vintage TV Footage: Drake Hotel Robbery during the New York Concert Stand; Robert Plant BBC Interview and Tampa Concert Band Arrival. Also available in Hi-Def and Blu Ray!

enormous improvement over the DVD

As painful as it is to sit through some parts of the film, the 1080p presentation is an enormous improvement over the DVD version. The technical qualities of the camera work and lighting are less than optimal throughout, but it does not diminish the revelation of seeing the picture with an additional 600 progressive lines of resolution. With a 5.1 TrueHD track, the mastering on the Blu-ray places a strong, solid image in the middle of the soundstage that bleeds to all corners, characteristic of an amphitheater's sonic signature. Details previously invisible are rendered with a rawness and presence that is remarkable. The audio improvement is more consistently rewarding. Yet the audio is fairly dry, with good clarity. If you are a Zeppelin fan and can stomach the fantasy sequences and introductory scenes, the Blu-ray version of Song Remains the Same is an absolute must-have.

Restoration, resolution and remix makes a 3 into a 4 star

The resolution is fantastic, the re-mix is really muscular, the extras are fun, if decent. Bottom line, if you're used to the old version this is actually better than you remember. You still are gonna have alot of explaining to do if anyone under 15 is around watching, however. If you're a Zep fan with a Hi-Def setup and wondering if you should give this a spin, go ahead. The fantasy sequences are actually a bit less silly- the 16:9 ratio and high resolution give them a cinematic feel. All in all, great job- all rock movie restorations should be this good.
