With his film adaptation of his play of the same name, Tyler Perry asks the question, "Why did I get married?" The answer is different for each of the four couples featured in this relationship comedy, which includes Janet Jackson as a psychologist whose own marriage is on shaky ground. Not known for subtlety, Perry hammers in the point that no marriage is perfect--just as no one is completely blameless. Even when he presents a thoughtless husband who cheats on his wife with her hot best friend, he doesn't present the wife as a helpless martyr. As portrayed by singer Jill Scott, Sheila is an overweight woman who is cowed by her bully of a husband. But the happily ever after that awaits her is almost worth all the verbal abuse she has taken from her philandering spouse. Scott is wonderful in her role and showcases a depth of real emotions. She also brings great humor to her role (After knocking someone out, she asks a police officer, "Did I kill him?... I should've killed him.") Delivered by anyone else, the line would've been callous, but Scott is believable. Jackson, who looks lovely on screen, has a smaller role and does what she can as a wife who is having a difficult time coming to terms with the death of her young son. As for Perry, who plays the cuckolded husband of a high-powered attorney, he tones down his act to succinctly convey hurt, anger, and resentment. Though he's best known for his broad, physical comedies, he shows a deft hand at tackling answers to a very complicated question--even if the answer may be a work in progress. --Jae-Ha Kim

Wonderful!

This is Mr. Perry loves his fans and obviously works hard to produce excellent work for our enjoyment. All these tedious nit-picked points by the nit-pickers of Mr. If I were a Pied Piper I would gather all you whiners and complainers and haters of Tyler Perry's movies and put each of you to the hard task of producing, and doing all the hard work to create your own. Perry's movies. Perry's vision and work, go find and do your own; then and only then will you have a right to complain and whine and point out flaws in someone else's work. Mr.

Mr. If you want realism, look at what is going on around you in your own real life. Tyler Perry's work, good, if not, still good. Perry's movies, just as any other movie, are for ENTERTAINMENT-PURPOSES ONLY. Perry's work and create your own movie, music, whatever. Thank God for Tyler's people who encourage and build him up.

If you enjoyed Mr. Get a life of your own,for crying out loud. With all the points you bring out why don't you take all that energy you are using to complain and judge Mr. More power to ya. His movies are for your enjoyment, They are not necessarily, all about real life. >my,my,my.just crabs in a bucket; don't build up, just pull down; always obtaining-never maintaining anything; get a gun and kill any progressiveness, or just simply nit-pick it to death.

Same ole ish

Nothing in this film surprised me. Nothing. During my first time watching, there were several times when I finished the character's lines, it was that predictable.

A thoughtful movie!

Good job Tyler Perry. I got Tyler Perry's Why Did I Get Married. For my birthday and it's just a wonderfully written movie. The actors are HILARIOUS, but so serious, the subject is so tough to talk about, but I think Tyler Perry handled it in a very thoughtful way and I think alot of people can walk away from this movie and say "yeah, I see me in that character" and realize that maybe it's not as bad as it seems or in some cases not as good as you pretend(depending on which character you are). I do think that there are a few places where the solutions were a little too simple and perhaps unrealistic, but all in all, I think it's a wonderful movie and it's one of those movies you watch and you walk away from it better for it.

Love Tyler but wasn't impressed

I heard great reviews-people wanted to see it a second time-when it came out. A let down but we are all entitled to one so I will continue to support Tyler. I felt like this movie left me hanging. The cast seemed great also I love Tyler Perry so my expectations were high.and they were nto met. I don't think the acting was good and I thought the plot could've been better. It really didn't delve into the relationship issues like the beginning makes you think.I mean Janet is giving a lecture on her relationship book.
