Editorial Reviews:

From director Michael Bay and executive producer Steven Spielberg comes a thrilling battle between the heroic Autobotsr and the evil Decepticonsr. When their epic struggle comes to Earth, all that stands between the Decepticonsr and ultimate power is a clue held by young Sam Witwicky (Shia LaBeouf). Unaware that he is mankind's last chance for survival, Sam and Bumblebee, his robot disguised as a car, are in a heart-pounding race against an enemy unlike anything anyone has seen before. It's the incredible, breath-taking film spectacular that USA Today says ''will appeal to the kid in all of us.''

"I bought a car. Turned out to be an alien robot. Who knew?" deadpans Sam Witwicky, hero and human heart of Michael Bay's rollicking robot-smackdown fest, Transformers. Witwicky (the sweetly nerdy Shia LaBeouf, channeling a young John Cusack) is the perfect counterpoint to the nearly nonstop exhilarating action. The plot is simple: an alien civil war (the Autobots vs. the evil Decepticons) has spilled onto Earth, and young Sam is caught in the fray by his newly purchased souped-up Camaro. Which has a mind--and identity, as a noble-warrior robot named Bumblebee--of its own. The effects, especially the mind-blowing transformations of the robots into their earthly forms and back again, are stellar.

Fans of the earlier film and TV series will be thrilled at this cutting-edge incarnation, but this version should please all fans of high-adrenaline action. Director Bay gleefully salts the movie with homages to pop-culture touchstones like Raiders of the Lost Ark, King Kong, and the early technothriller WarGames. The actors, though clearly all supporting those kickass robots, are uniformly on-target, including the dashing Josh Duhamel as a U.S. Army sergeant fighting an enemy he never anticipated; Jon Voight, as a tough yet sympathetic Secretary of Defense in over his head; and John Turturro, whose special agent manages to be confidently unctuous, even stripped to his undies. But the film belongs to Bumblebee, Optimus Prime, and the dastardly Megatron--and the wicked stunts they collide in all over the globe. Long live Transformers! --A.T. Hurley

Makes me wish I had a better TV.

Looks awesome on a 26" LCD (720P). Plus Megan Fox is realy HOT. Awesome visuals. Makes me wish I had a bigger and better HDTV.

Special effects bonanza gets four stars on visuals, less so on story

But I can't honestly say it's one of the best big-budget extravaganzas I've seen recently. This civil war movie is aiming for massive blockbuster appeal, so it goes for a solid PG-13 rating. One easily imagines GM getting credits in the movie for editing, screenplay, and production. As a result, we get lots of explosions, some fantastic robot-versus-robot violence, and the occasional hint or two of double-entendre.

Bumblebee gets insulted and transforms into a brand-spanking new Camaro, conveniently timed for a new rollout by Chevy. Based on the action figures and cartoons (which I admittedly loved when I was younger), "Transformers" tells the story of a civil war that devoured planet Cybetron and now has shifted to Earth. For the most part, it works okay. And that's one of the biggest problems of the movie - it plays almost like a commercial for General Motors. Shia Labouef plays Sam Witwicky, whose ancestor made a critical discovery about the Autobots on earth. Watching a robot realistically transform before your eyes from 'bot to F-15, Camaro, or 18-wheeler is something not to be missed.

Yes, a few people get squashed or blown up, but that type of violence is generally minimized (with the one exception where the evil Megatron, leader of the Deceptocons, flicks away a pesky human like a fly, smashing the poor sap into, well, sap). Yes, they are amazing, but like the recent Jason Bourne movies, sometimes the action is shot so close-in that you lose a sense for what's actually happening. Your younger son may not worry about such things. All in all, this movie is best enjoyed by those who won't wonder what the Autobot is thinking as Sam and Maggie hook up on his hood, with the Autobot helpfully providing the Barry White soundtrack. Who knows.

This is one of those movies that relies heavily on such obvious humor as an Autobot speaking jive almost as bad as that used in "Airplane" by Mrs. So it's no surprise that she insults Sam's Autobot, named Bumblebee, who hides in plain sight as a '68 Camaro. Cleaver.

All in all, a fun movie with much to recommend it. But it's terrific for the viewer that it did, because the evil Deceptecons and the good Autobots share the ability to morph into perfect replicas of America military and hot-rod technology.

I'm somewhat inured to product placement these days, but ever so often the filmmakers go overboard. He'll probably worry more about the fact that some of the action scenes are too muddled to follow. Why.

Michael Bay's "Transformers" is occasionally a visual extravaganza, but one that is somewhat mired in a story that appeals to (only) the twelve-year old boy in all of us. He conveniently falls for the local hottie, Maggie (Rachael Taylor), who is gorgeous and knows cars inside and out.

Great eye candy

Although it took some getting used to seeing the autobots as GM vehicles, I love this movie. Can't wait to see the sequel.

HD?are you sure bout that?

And I compared the quality of the movies, I was shocked about the color noise Transformers has comparing to V for Vendetta. well, this is the source problem, maybe, as we know.

Micheal Bay movies, huh. LoL, with this quality.

He probably left all his focus on bombing the set up and forgot to check the quality of the videography. so, 3 out of 5 is decent enough

I expected better. I've bought Transformers BD along with Constantine and V for Vendetta.

Let's recall what he'd said previously in his official blog, "This movie is BD worth and I'm pissed off for Paramount to make this movie HDDVD exclusive.".

Transformed!!!!

I bought it that day (along with the TV). I obviously still own a lot of standard DVD's and building up by blu-ray collection. Although, I was impressed with the standard version of this movie, the blu-ray edition is amazing. Wow. Before this movie was released on blu-ray I bought it for standard DVD. I first saw it at Circuit City being played on a Samsung with 120 hz.
