Editorial Reviews:

Columbia Pictures Black Hawk Down (Blu-ray)
From acclaimed director Ridley Scott ("Gladiator," "Hannibal") and renowned producer Jerry Bruckheimer ("Pearl Harbor," "Armageddon") comes a gripping true story about bravery, camaraderie and the complex reality of war. "Black Hawk Down" stars an exceptional cast including Josh Hartnett ("Pearl Harbor"), Ewan McGregor ("Moulin Rouge!"), Tom Sizemore ("Saving Private Ryan"), Eric Bana ("Chopper"), William Fichtner ("The Perfect Storm"), Ewen Bremner ("Snatch") and Sam Shepard ("All The Pretty Horses"). In 1993, an elite group of American Rangers and Delta Force soldiers are sent to Somalia on a critical mission tocapture a violent warlord whose corrupt regime has lead to the starvation of hundreds of thousands of Somalis. When the mission goes terribly wrong, the men find themselves outnumbered and literally fighting for their lives.

Ridley Scott's Black Hawk Down conveys the raw, chaotic urgency of ground-force battle in a worst-case scenario. With exacting detail, the film re-creates the American siege of the Somalian city of Mogadishu in October 1993, when a 45-minute mission turned into a 16-hour ordeal of bloody urban warfare. Helicopter-borne U.S. Rangers were assigned to capture key lieutenants of Somali warlord Muhammad Farrah Aidid, but when two Black Hawk choppers were felled by rocket-propelled grenades, the U.S. soldiers were forced to fend for themselves in the battle-torn streets of Mogadishu, attacked from all sides by armed Aidid supporters. Based on author Mark Bowden's bestselling account of the battle, Scott's riveting, action-packed film follows a sharp ensemble cast in some of the most authentic battle sequences ever filmed. The loss of 18 soldiers turned American opinion against further involvement in Somalia, but Black Hawk Down makes it clear that the men involved were undeniably heroic. --Jeff Shannon

User Comments About Black Hawk Down [Blu-ray]

One of the best combat action movies in the history of cinema

Goodale, Enrigue Murciano (Without A Trace) as Ranger Sgt. Whereas, American actors hardly ever come through with convincing foreign accents. Mike Steele, and Tom Sizemore (HEAT, Saving Private Ryan, Bringing Out The Dead) as the rough and tough Ranger Lt. It never ceases to amaze me how so many foreign actors can easily imitate American accents in movies.

A few other script continuity miscues, but mostly unnoticed by the technically deficient (for want of a more descriptive term). As previously mentioned, literally non-stop action of all the units involved in this undertaking. star Ron Eldard (Men Behaving Badly) as CWO Mike Durant. With the excepting of one screen shot from above the "Little Bird" gunships, showing a Huey instead. When the shooting starts, there's very little letup.

Todd Blackburn and Bana as Hoot. Danny McKnight. All handling their American accents with excellence during the entire movie. Col. Gary Gordon. Sgt.

And former T.V. Matt Eversmann' (Josh Hartnett - Lucky Number Slevin, Sin City, The Black Dahlia) do "bang-up" jobs in this story of the bloody battle in "The Mog.". Steele, Ewen Bremner as Spec. The detail of the weaponry used was good; especially the Black Hawks with mini-guns and the "Little Birds" with mini-guns and 7-shot rocket pods.

Nelson, Orlando Bloom as Pvt. Case(s) in point: Ewan McGregor as Specialist Grimes, Jason Isaacs as Capt. Delta Sgt.

Great contributions from William Fitchner (HEAT, Invasion, Prison Break, The Dark Knight) as Delta Sgt 1st Class Jeff Sanderson, Jason Isaacs (Resident Evil, Harry Potter, The State Within) as the by-the-book Ranger Capt. You'll notice future television stars such as Carmine Giovanazzo (CSI: NY) as Ranger Sgt. Ruiz and Nikolaj Coster Waldau (New Amsterdam) as Delta MSgt.

1st Class 'Hoot Gibson' (Eric Bana - Munich, Hulk, Lucky You, Troy) and Ranger 'SSgt. Next to 'Saving Private Ryan' this is by far, the most combat-intensive movie I've ever seen. You just couldn't tell they are "foreigners.".

Blown Away!!!

Even if you don't have the up to date equipment it's still a great blu-ray movie. It was a nice picture. Since then, I purchased a Samsung 46" 605 Series Flat Screen. This movie is so realistic. When I purchased this movie, I was still using my Sony XBR Rear Projection HDTV and PS3 for Blu-Ray. This has the 120 hz capability which turns 60 frames into 120 frames and is smooth as ice.

And The Oscar Should Of Gone To:

See the friken movie. You have to admit, Saving Private Ryan was great, but Black Hawk Down is greater. From Josh Hartnett to Ewan mcGregor. Pearl Harbor might not have been good, but he was good in it. The sound is good. Maybe better than Saving Private Ryan. You won't be angry.

This Movie comes out on DVD on June 11. What's there to talk about. The two hour strait fighting scenes are good. I have a note to Josh Hartnett, Keep up with the war movies Josh.

Everyone in this move is awesome. People that say say Black Hawk Down isn't good, Your not right in the head.

What can I say. Absolutley flawless.

The acting is good. The special effects are good.

This movie is flawless. Black Hawk Down.

Before I get off the subject lets talk about the movie.

amazing movie about some amazing heroes

This is one of my favorite movies about some true heroes. The soldiers in this movie were truly inspiring and will never be forgotten.
