Editorial Reviews:

Controversial brave and extremely sexually explicit Clement Virgo's LIE WITH ME examines the often raw relationship between David (Eric Balfour) and Leila (Lauren Lee Smith) two emotionally damaged young people living in Toronto. Each feels trapped in a bleak life and attempts to find some kind of escape with the other.System Requirements:Running Time 93 Mins.Format: DVD MOVIE Genre: DRAMA Rating: NR UPC: 821575534154 Manufacturer No: TF-53415

Shot in sunny Toronto and set to a dreamy score, Lie With Me looks and sounds like an art film, but the end result isn't quite so lofty. The plot is thin and the dialogue superfluous, but no matter--Canada's Clément Virgo (Love Come Down) just wants to turn you on and he has enlisted two attractive, uninhibited young performers to assist in his aims. Leila (Lauren Lee Smith, The L Word) and David (Eric Balfour, Six Feet Under) meet at a party. He's with his girlfriend, but finds himself drawn to her. The feeling is mutual. She's alone, but quickly finds an unattached hipster with whom to have a tryst. David catches her in the act. Instead of turning away, he watches. They start seeing each other immediately afterwards. "I'm not hooked on danger, [I'm] hooked on sex," Leila claims, but she isn't exactly the most trustworthy narrator. She wants a purely physical relationship, while David wants something more. They return to their old lives, but the obsession refuses to die. Based on the novella by Virgo's partner, Tamara Berger, Lie With Me plays like a low-budget cross between Adrian Lyne's overrated 9 1/2 Weeks and Wayne Wang's underrated The Center of the World. --Kathleen C. Fennessy

They Can't Show Enough Skin to Make This One Appealing

Erections sans cumshots. It inhabits the middle distance between hardcore and soft core porn. It is the kind of movie that businessmen pay $4.00 to watch in the privacy of their room at the La Quinta while on a business trip.

Viewer discretion advised and your self-esteem is at stake.". I would not only add a parental advisory for this film, but would also add the following: "This movie is for immature adults only. Ask yourself why David (Eric Balfour, a greasy, unattractive dude) would leave the only attractive woman in the movie, Victoria (played by Polly Shannon) for someone as just this side of ugly, Leila (Lauren Lee Smith). The "actors" mumble their lines which are worthless dialogue anyway and not worth hearing.

No, its not a hardcore porn movie. Ugly people having sex, smothered in tattoos. Like most faux art movies, sex moves the plot, rather than the plot incorporating the sex in a meaningful way.

Quiet, yet moving

No wasted dialogue (except for a few of the voiceovers). Nice chemistry between the two leads. This movie has an art house/independent film presentation. Powerful love/sex scenes.

disapointing!

I bought it for the ratings but was sadly disappointed. No plot, poor acting, little nudity and only in lead actress (and actor) no others. Even the body of the lead actress left something to be desired (extremely thin with not much muscle tone except legs, and a long torso) For you females, the lead actor had a nice body but he carried himself like a stiff robot and, as I said, the acting was very forced and contrived. Don't buy this movie if you're a thinking person. How this movie got as high a rating as it did is beyond me. What plot there was was really unrealistic with the rapid progress to the sex stage unatural and pretty unbelievable.

Visually & Emotionally Stunning

Those expectations were not limited or let down. I found this movie brilliant.

Not only was it daring and bold but it was sexually stimulating, breathtakingly sensual and emotionally moving. Every moment was full of meaning and the characters emotions.

The character study of both David and Leila was in depth and the storyline of the two characters needing each other, yet, needing to learn how to love each other and to be loved was stunning.

The actors and director did a wonderful job with this film and I highly recommend it. Being a fan of both Eric Balfour and Lauren Lee Smith I began the movie with high expectations.

The nudity and sexual encounters in the movie only added to its intensity and were never overdone nor just blantant sex.
