It's a good bet that any American kid growing up in the '70s or '80s learned some elementary lesson from the seminal musical series Schoolhouse Rock!. Airing from 1973 to 1984 (and often revived), the ABC Saturday morning shorts effortlessly introduced kids to grammar, science, multiplication, money, and American history--three minutes at a time. In one smart, comprehensive 2-disc set, all 46 songs and plenty of extras are collected. The four creators developed the series slowly, a welcome diversion from their advertising agency jobs, and ended up taking home four Emmys over the years. The background material includes 10 audio commentaries and a making-of feature for the new song, "I'm Gonna Send Your Vote to College." The DVD subtitle option is a great bonus for those who need to know every word from such favorites as "Three Is a Magic Number," "Interjections," "I'm Just a Bill," and "Conjunction Junction." (Ages 3 and older) --Doug Thomas

User Comments About Schoolhouse Rock! (Special 30th Anniversary Edition)

School House Rock is great!

The product was unscratched, well packaged and the content is what I thought, it is the original deal. I bought this for my children. I can say it brought back memories.

Fantastic learning tool

Schoolhouse rock was a fantastic learning tool when it was first created in the 70s and is just as popular with kids today as it was then.

Can you sing the Preamble?

And her co-workers will look at her like she has three heads, except for a select few who will start humming and softly sing "lolly lolly lolly, get your adverbs here" Our professor and many of my fellow classmates looked at me like I had three heads, but from certain corners you could hear a familiar humming and even a softly muttered "we the people, in order to for a more perfect union.". That's the impact that Schoolhouse Rock had on those of us who were of "a certain age", and thanks to these DVD's, we can pass it on to another generation, as I am with my four year old daughter. Whether this will make a difference or not in school, who knows; but it can't hurt, she likes it, and maybe some day, when she's all grown up and working in a staid office job she will hear a co-worker talking on the phone to someone in another department named "Lolly" and shout out of the blue; "Ask her if she has any adverbs.". That was what I asked on my first day of Constitutional Law. She can't understand multiplication quite yet, but she's loved "My Hero Zero" for over a year, can say that a noun is a person, place or thing, and knows that Three is a Magic Number.

Hot Item

I think I'll stock a few extra for gifts to my neighbors. I keep buying this for myself and then I'd give it to a family with young children as a means to assist them with learning English. I like that it has a variety of American subcultures represented throughout the different presentations. I live overseas. It is a learning tool and entertaining as well.
