Editorial Reviews:

A hilarious Soul Cinema send-up, this ultra-slick, urban action comedy blows 70's blaxploitation movies right out of the 'hood! Featuring the very funny Wayans family (Keenen, Damon and Kim), Bernie Casey, Antonio Fargas, Isaac Hayes, Jim Brown, Ja'net DuBois, David Alan Grier, Kadeem Hardison and Chris Rock, I'm Gonna Git You Sucka is a perfect "mixture of nostalgia, silliness and genuinely unpredictable humor" (The New York Times). Jack Spade, a goody-goody war hero with medals for short-hand, returns to the ghetto to discover that his brother, Junebug, has OG'd (Over-Golded on jewelry). Jack swears revenge against the local gang boss, Mr. Big, and sets off to enlist an army of Shaft, Superfly and Black Caesarlook-a-likes, that is. They don't come easy, cheap or youngbut they do have nice clothes and enough firepower left in them to practically destroy Mr. Big's Big Brim Bar where the bad guys wearyou guessed itbig hats!

From Keenan Ivory Wayans, the man who brought us Jim Carrey (initially just one of the bunch on Wayans's television comedy-sketch show, In Living Color), comes I'm Gonna Git You Sucka (1988), a comedy spoof on the blaxploitation films of the 1970s. Wayans plays Jack Spade, an army private just returning from the service. He comes home to find his younger brother June Bug dead of a overdose of gold chains (an "O.G.") He vows revenge, and with the help of some of the neighborhood's old school heroes including Flyguy (Antonio Fargas), Kung Fu Joe (Steve James), Hammer (Isaac Hayes), Slammer (football star Jim Brown), and John Slade (Bernie Casey), Spade wages a war against Mr. Big, the neighborhood crime lord.

In the tradition of Airplane! and Naked Gun, I'm Gonna Git You Sucka pokes fun through satire and offensive comedy. The film also features some of the players that would end up on In Living Color and has appearances from such varied actors as Clarence Williams III, Eve Plumb (better known to most as Jan Brady), and Chris Rock as a rib-joint customer. --Shannon Gee

Let's get that sucka!

Im Gonna Git You Sucka came out at a time when you can expect a good spoof and today stands out as one of the funniest spoofs in parody movie history. There are too many funny scenes in this movie but the girl at the club(played by the gorgeous Anne Marie Johnson) removing her hair, leg, and butt was the funniest scene in the movie. Damon Wayons and Kadeem Hardison were hilarious too as Mr. I think Antonio Fargas's Fly Guy coming out of jail wearing fishbowls in his platform shoes was a riot too. Big and sets out to deal with him and his cronies with the help on Jack Slade and crew others.

Jack's mom(played by Janet Du'bois of Good Times) beating up on Mr Big's goons comes in second.

He finds out that his brother worked for Mr.

If you're looking for a good spoof you cant go wrong with this one.

The whole movie was Jack(played by Keenan Ivory Wayans)returns home from the service to find out that his brother passed on.

Two thumbs WAY up.

And the scene where Richard Roundtree's character had the swollen bunions.classic.

At the time the Wayans brothers were starting to emerge on the scene and this movie was their best work(Dont Be A Menace comes in second).

Back when spoof movies were actually funny, there was this clever spoof of blaxploitation movies called Im Gonna Git You Sucka.

Big's bumbling henchmen.

Just an old classic

So it is kind of an old classic for us. It is a movie we still quote and laugh about even now that we are older. I purchased this DVD because my friends and I used to watch this tons of times when we were younger. I wanted it in DVD format.

Looove This Movie!!

I had to have it on DVD. I love this movie. It reminds me of how cool I wasn't after watching the movies this movie is making fun of.

This is Parody at its peak

Not for children, to be sure. This unfortunate soul was the brother of returning 'soldier boy' Jack Spade, who vows to bring down the gold chain industry run by the infamous Mr. Inspired casting makes this film's success complete. Sucka begins by taking us to Anytown, USA and showing right away what happens when one wears too many gold chains. This could easily be the plot of a typical '70's grindhouse movie and writer/director/star Keenan Ivory Wayans is fully aware of this. There are visual gags aplenty on top of countless quips and double entendres, but the film never thumbs its nose at those great actioners it is parodying.

Damon Wayans is on hand to supply some wonderful comic bits. But for the adult who likes their humor a bit juvenile, this is most highly recommended. He treats this comical homage with restpect and great care. With the help of legendary hero John Slade and his former partners Hammer, Slammer, super pimp Fly Guy and the martial arts master Kung Fu Joe, Jack wages war against Big and his lackies. Big.

This movie just plain succeeds. Then there was this filmed account that took several of the stars to those great '70's blaxploitation films and allowed them to poke fun of themselves. There's also plenty of action and even a tender, but thankfully brief, romantic interlude between Jack and his brother's widow. Bernie Casey, Jim Brown, Isaac Hayes and John Vernon are the old hands who know this genre so well. The Naked Gun was an inspired lunatic of a movie based on an insanely hysterical TV show.

In 1988, two films reinvented the parody that Blazing Saddles and Airplane perfected. This is blaxpoitation in a form that can be viewed and enjoyed by anyone who does not allow a few crass jokes to interfere with a good sense of humor.

YOU SHOULD GET THIS SUCKA

I think this is one of Chris Rock's first movie appearances, "can I get 1.1 rib." Lol I bought this as a give for my boyfriend who is a big movie buff. It's classic, he loved it.
